New life coming to historic Union City Chair office
Partnerships move projects forward.
ECRDA is working with Union City Borough to save the historic Union City Chair Co. office building and return it to productive use.
Thanks to the Erie County Landbank, a grant from the PA Local Share Account and a grant from the County of Erie American Rescue Plan, the property is ready to see new life. Renovation is targeted to begin later this year.
Union City Chair Co. produced millions of hardwood chairs between its opening in 1881 and the plant’s closure in 2000.
It was one of at least a dozen furniture manufacturers that earned the town its historic catchphrase, “Union City Seats the World.”
